Apprenticeship Programme

CTC is piloting a church-based community organising apprenticeship programme aimed at leaders emerging from its work in inner-city churches.

The three elements of the programme are:

  1. to learn broad-based community organising and organise in their local churches
  2. receive training in professional and soft skills
  3. to be mentored and accompanied in a process of discernment.

Starting with a retreat that fosters connection with one another and with God will enable us to lay the foundation for safe spaces for growth and challenge. In addition, , participants will go on a mixture of day and overnight retreats 3 more times during the first year. Once a month, all apprentices will come together for a seminar to learn and discuss new skills that are relevant to their church placements.

The overall aim of the programme is to journey with the apprentices as they explore what discernment is and learn how to tune in to God’s call. Later in the programme, they will have a full experience of the cycle of organising, an ability to identify where and how organising can be applied in their communities, gain a more profound sense of their place in the world and God’s calling on their lives, and greater confidence in their gifts and talents in a professional setting.
