Listen and Lead

Listen and Lead is a short course leadership programme for lay leaders that gives them tools to discern their own gifts and those of others in their Church.

Rooted in the Bible and theology, it uses the methodology of community organising to empower lay leaders to create positive change within their church and wider community. It is a ‘taster’ or ‘mini’ version of CTC’s ‘Olive Wagstaff Course,’ a longer course for lay leaders that roots action in prayer and theology and helps lay leaders grow in capacity and confidence as disciples.

Listen and Lead can last 4-6 weeks and focuses on relationship building through teaching and practising the’ one-on-one conversation’ tool alongside prayer and biblical reflection. We also explore how building relationships in our churches and community can help discern our personal and collective vocational callings, identify leadership potential, and form the bedrock for further action.

The course offers practical ways to live out your Christian calling in your church and community.

In Spring 2024, we piloted the first ‘Listen & Lead’ across four churches in the deanery of Newham. We are developing the course to run in different contexts or individual parishes and are developing resources in other languages in Newham.
