When we chose this design, we had no idea the Chancellor was going to rebrand the minimum wage as a “national living wage” – a sign of the impact of more than a decade of community organising in inner-city churches, and one that we have been responding to in the press.
CTC’s work grew out of the churches which helped to found that campaign, and our scale and impact has also grown dramatically in the last ten years. We have moved offices and changed our name in the last year, but our purpose remains the same. Indeed, the last year has seen us focus even more of our energy on our core projects – helping churches to organise for justice, and making sure that organising is rooted in theological reflection and prayer.
In the last year, we have launched two major projects: a learning community with Citizens UK for churches who want to explore Congregational Development through community organising (members range from Baptist and Pentecostal through all shades of Anglicanism to a Roman Catholic parishes) and the Church Credit Champions Network (a key part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s work to promote responsible credit). Our Urban Leadership School – including the Jellicoe and Buxton internships – continues to grow, and we have an exciting range of reports either published or in the pipeline.
